GAME DESCRIPTION
DRINK HUMAN BEANS is a psychological-horror, dystopian, thriller that rides the line between genres.
At first glance, it is pure narrative, but at the players discretion it can become an immersive-sim puzzle/shooter.
It was designed as a psychological experiment to answer the question:
“If presented with the explicit option to do evil, and the implicit option to escape, which appeals to the player?”
DHB was inspired by the likes of Phillip K. Dick, The Stanley Parable, and the Stanford Prison experiment.
The mystery is intellectual, visceral, and occasionally painful to experience.
The dystopian elements are both thematic and immersive:
- All interactions and dialogue involve your phone.
- Security interviews are mandatory, leading conversations that make you seem guilty.
- Your toilet is a garbage disposal beneath your shower.
Your day begins trapped in your room during sleep mode, forced to play your favorite murder simulator.
Your roommate mysteriously leaves, and tells you to keep it a secret.
You recycle feeding trays to make $STAR and order coffee.
You meet eccentric characters, and doors you cannot open.
Everyone is worried about your roommate.
Power outages open up the opportunity for a variety of Secret Choices.
Your final act of the first day is to drink Coffee.
The drug takes hold, and walks you through a dream of being framed for murder.
LAST DISSENT
I am a self-funded solo-developer focused on creating games that change their players.
The name Last Dissent is intended to evoke a radical vision.
The Last relates to our impending, and current, dystopian-reality.
The Dissent is from the status quo of common design theory.
We must push this medium beyond focus-tested dopaminergic stimulators.
Through the common simulacrum:
We kill our enemies, but never bury the dead.
